CHAMPAGNE ROOM Gritty Runner-Up Effort in G2 Bayakoa

2016 Eclipse Award winner CHAMPAGNE ROOM put up a hard-fought battle to finish runner-up in the 1 1/16-mile Bayakoa S.-G2 at Los Alamitos. The 3-year-old filly by BROKEN VOW move up to set the pace before they reached the first turn. The 2016 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies-G1 winner set fast early fractions of :22 4/5 and :46 3/5. She still maintained the lead turning for home, dug in when confronted with a little more than a furlong to go and battled to the wire. After a bone chip was removed following her placing in the Las Virgenes S.-G2 in early February, CHAMPAGNE ROOM returned after a more than seven-month lay-off to go wire-to-wire and win the $200,000 Remington Park Oaks by 3 3/4 lengths. Her final time was less than a second off the track record. Lifetime record: 9-3-2-2, $1,490,600.
