G’S TURN a Close Runner-Up in Super Derby Prelude

A winner in two of his last three starts, G’S TURN had to overcome a wall of horses in the stretch to make a late bid and finish runner-up, beaten just a neck, in the Super Derby Prelude S., a prep for next month’s $300,000 Grade 3 Super Derby. A multiple stakes-placed 3-year-old colt from the first crop of ALTERNATION raced up close just behind the front four going 1 1/16 miles on the main track at Louisiana Downs. Trapped behind a line of five horses at the top of the stretch, G’S TURN had to take up a bit to be able to swing out six wide and get a clear run to the wire. Once clear at the sixteenth pole, he put in a strong closing kick to end up in a three-horse photo finish. Last year, G’S Turn was a fast-closing runner-up in the $75,000 El Joven S. and in this year’s Fair Grounds’ Black Gold Overnight S., both run on the turf. Lifetime record: 15-3-4-2, $103,425.
