3YO THE GRASS IS BLUE Springs First Stakes Win in Aqueduct’s Busanda

Coming off a troubled break to place in Laurel’s Anne Arundel County S., only beaten a head for the win in her last start of 2020, the now 3-year-old filly by BROKEN VOW made the most of her late-kicking ability to prove best in the $100,000 Busanda S. and win by a length. Racing behind the pacesetter down the backstretch, THE GRASS IS BLUE took the inside route around the far turn. She encountered traffic problems near the top of the stretch, moved out to get more running room near the top of the lane and powered home to earn the victory racing 1 1/8 miles. She was an 8 1/2-length debut winner at Monmouth at the end of July, then won her next start drawing off by 3 1/2 lengths in an allowance race at Keeneland at the beginning of October. Lifetime record: 5-3-0-1, $1216,978. O-Louis Lazzinnaro LLC. B-Phillips Racing Partnership. T-Chad Brown.
