BROKEN VOW’s Grade 1 Performer BEST PERFORMANCE Brings $560,000 at Keeneland January
Cataloged as a racing/broodmare prospect, the just turned 4-year-old filly BEST PERFORMANCE was purchased by Three Chimneys Farm for $560,000, the second highest price on day two of the annual Keeneland January Horses of All Ages Sales. “She is by a stallion we have a lot of respect for,” said Chris Baker, COO of Three Chimneys. “She is very good looking and she can run.” He stated plans are to breed her in 2019. BEST PERFORMANCE was 4th highest weighted as a 2-year-old filly at 120 pounds, just four below the high weight on the Jockey Club 2017 Top 2-Year-Old Rankings for Fillies. The daughter of BROKEN VOW culminated her juvenile season with a runner-up performance in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf-G1, only beaten 3/4 length. She started the season with a debut win on the dirt in a Maiden Special Weight at Belmont Park. The $300,000 Fasig-Tipton Florida 2YO sales grad was never worse than second in her remaining five starts, all stakes, in 2017 – the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf-G1, Saratoga’s Schuylerville S.-G3, Belmont’s Miss Grillo S.-G3, Kentucky Downs’ $350,000 Juvenile Fillies S. and Belmont’s Astoria S. Bred by Mercedes Stables LLC and raced by West Point Thoroughbreds, Tango Uniform Racing LLC and Robert Masiello, the Christophe Clement trainee retires with a lifetime record of 10-1-5-0, $398,448.
