BYE BYE BERTIE Takes to Del Mar’s Turf Course to Get a Win
Coming off placings at Keeneland and Churchill on the dirt in her last two starts, BYE BYE BERTIE took a liking to a switch in surfaces and got a victory going a mile on the turf course at Del Mar on their opening weekend. The final time of 1:35.11 was run in a faster time than they ran in the Osunitas S., run at the same distance and surface, later that day. Breaking from post three in a field of ten, the daughter of ALTERNATION broke well to race in second, just a length off the leader. She moved up to challenge and then take the lead before they reached the top of the stretch, and remained in front to the wire, running a 103 Equibase Speed Figure, the highest of her career and defeated a Grade 1 stakes horse. This was her first career win on turf, after five tallies on dirt winning at distances from six furlongs to 1 1/16 miles. Lifetime record: 16-6-1-2, $192,588. O-Paradise Farms Corp. and David Staudacher. B-Brereton C. Jones. T-Michael Maker.
