IMPRIMIS Returns After Lengthy Layoff for Strong Effort in Saratoga’s Troy-G3

Making his first start in nine months, IMPRIMIS crossed the wire first by 2 1/4 lengths, only to be disqualified and placed third for interference in late stretch in the 5 1/2-furlong Troy S.-G3 on the turf at Saratoga. The son of BROKEN VOW broke from the inside post to race in third early on. He began his rally midway around the turn, went four wide turning for home and put in a powerful run to finish first under the wire. IMPRIMIS had been working well leading up to the Troy, including four furlongs in :47 3/5 on the dirt August 1 and five furlongs on the turf in :59 3/5 July 26. A four-time stakes winner, last year IMPRIMIS stumbled badly at the start of Keeneland’s G2 Shakertown S., going 5 1/2 furlongs on the turf, but recovered and rallied to a neck victory. The race prior to the Shakertown, he was a 3 1/4-length winner in Gulfstream’s Silks Run S., a race in which he ran a 110 Beyer and five furlongs in :54 3/5. Lifetime record: 14-7-0-2, $468,548.
