IMPRIMIS Rings in the New Year with a Win in Gulfstream’s Janus S.

This veteran son of BROKEN VOW, who lost all chance when forced to take up sharply near midstretch in the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint-G1 last out, got back on the winning side with a victory in the Janus S., his ninth win from 17 starts. Pinched immediately after the break which makes things difficult in a five-furlong turf sprint here, settled near the rear in the early going. He swung five wide into the stretch and finished with a strong closing kick to get past the very tough Extravagant Kid, who got the jump on him inside the eighth pole, to win by a neck. IMPRIMIS ran without Lasix, such is the new policy at Gulfstream of not allowing horses participating in stakes to compete on Lasix. It was his sixth career stakes win which includes the Shakertown S.-G2 at Keeneland and the Breeders’ Cup Challenge Series Race, the $700,000 Turf Sprint S.-G3 at Kentucky Downs (pictured). Lifetime record: 17-9-0-2, $805,983. O-Breeze Easy, LLC. B-Craig L. Wheeler. T-Joe Orseno.
