The 3-year-old colt by ALTERNATION battled for the lead early on the outside. He inched away to be a length in front after a half and then maintained that margin the rest of the way to the wire. ACE OF DIAMONDS became the 29th first-crop winner for ALTERNATION after pulling away late to take a $20,000 Maiden purse by 1 3/4 lengths. He raced last early but steadily advanced through the race, split horses at the top of the stretch to take the lead and was first to the wire going 1 1/16 miles at Hastings.
