Stakes Horses at Fair Grounds and Gulfstream Park

MAY LILY, winner of the Kentucky Downs Preview Ladies Sprint S. this past summer, came from next to last in 10-horse field to finish just a head back of the win in the 5 1/2-furlong Richard R. Scherer Memorial S. on the turf course at Fair Grounds. The daughter of BROKEN VOW was still more than eight lengths back after three furlongs, but swung five wide on the turn, then six wide turning for home and closed strongly to finish behind the winner, a multiple GSW of nearly $1 million, and another horse. Lifetime record: 21-4-5-4, $271,926. O/B-Lloyd Madison Farms, IV LLC. T-Greg Foley.

SUNSET PROMISE, a 2-year-old filly by BROKEN VOW finished runner-up in her second stakes appearance in the last three starts after closing through the stretch in the one-mile Wait a While S. on Gulfstream’s turf course. Two races back she finished runner-up in the $200,000 Selima S., just 2 1/2 lengths back of Sharing, winner of the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf-G1 in her next start. Lifetime record: 7-1-3-1, $97,878. O-David Staudacher. B-Rosedown Racing Stables, LLC. T-Michael Maker.
