Two New Maiden Special Weight Winners on Saturday

Making his 2-year-old debut, ALTERNATE TIME went head to head with the heavy favorite down the stretch and won the battle at the wire for a head victory in a 6 1/2-furlong Maiden Special Weight at Remington Park. The colt from the third crop of ALTERNATION broke alertly from post six in this 11-horse field to race no more than 2 1/4 lengths back. Three wide around the turn, he engaged the new leader before they reached the top of the stretch and battled all the way to the wire and got the win. Lifetime record: 1-1-0-0, $19, 494. O/B-William T. Reed. T-Bret Calhoun.

Having placed in his last three Maiden Special Weight starts, last out by only 1/2 length, KNOWYOUROPTIONS overcame troubles on the far turn and rallied strongly through the stretch to win this off-the-turf one mile Maiden Special by 1 1/2 lengths. The 3-year-old son of ALTERNATION broke from the inside post in a 10-horse field to race midpack early. Bumped by a horse to his outside on the far turn, KNOWYOUROPTIONS swung out wide for the run to the finish and galloped by the leader inside the sixteenth pole to be much the best, also at Remington. Lifetime record: 11-1-2-3, $46,978. O/B-Don Von Hemel and Todd Dunn. T-Don Von Hemel.
