World Beater lived up to his lofty name with a thrilling victory in Race 3 at Churchill Downs on Kentucky Oaks day. The 3-year-old colt by Oscar Performance showed a strong turn of foot to capture a competitive $120,000 Maiden Special Weight going 1 1/8 miles on the turf.
Trained by Riley Mott and piloted by Jaime Torres, World Beater overcame a troubled start, bobbling out of the gate before settling off the inside. He navigated through traffic on the far turn, moving three-wide into contention. Showing a professional mindset, he split rivals decisively at the top of the stretch and quickened sharply once in the clear, driving past the leaders and pulling away to win by one length.
Bred by Dr. John A. Chandler, World Beater’s performance marked a significant step forward and hinted at even bigger things to come on the turf this season.
