We had an exciting Labor Day weekend with two wins and one third from three runners.
JOYRIDER (3YO, c, Kitten’s Joy – Jump Up) put in a big performance at Del Mar to win a one-mile maiden race on Saturday in his third start. He was near the back of the field going into the first turn and started making his move coming into the backstretch. He came four wide around the turn and into the stretch, hitting the front at the 1/16th pole and holding off the second-place horse to win by a nose. Trainer: Richard Mandella. Jockey: Mike Smith.
DERBY STREET (3YO, c, Street Sense – Glory and Power) gave us our second win of Labor Day weekend with a hard-fought victory in a 10-furlong turf maiden at Woodbine on Monday. He and the second-place finisher battled the entire race, with Derby Street getting the head bob on the wire. Trainer: Josie Carroll. Jockey: Luis Contreras.
EXECUTIVE (2YO, c, Constitution – Low Pressure Zone) was impressive on his debut in an 8.5-furlong turf maiden at Saratoga on Saturday. He was last around the first turn and the backstretch and came flying three-wide around the turn. He “finished with a flourish” to get third place. Trainer: Bill Mott. Jockey: Junior Alvarado.
