Boltage Strikes at Fair Grounds

Boltage (Bolt d’Oro) was electric at Fair Grounds on Saturday with an easy win in a turf sprint under jockey Ben Curtis.

Boltage broke sharply in the 5 1/2-furlong turf allowance. He sat just behind the leader for the first quarter and then began his rally around the turn. He was clear at the top of the stretch and when a challenger came up at the 1/8 pole, Boltage rebroke to win by an easier-than-it-looked 3/4-lengths. He continued widening that margin in the gallop out.

Final fractions were :22.33, :46.65, :58.24, 1:04.42.

Boltage, formerly trained by Richard Mandella, was named a ‘TDN Rising Star’ after a powerful win at Del Mar in his turf debut and was placed in a Graded stake in his next start. Now trained by Mike Stidham, he’s proven that he’s kept that early talent.
