A change in surface proved no issue for King Size, who delivered a dominant wire-to-wire victory in a one-mile allowance at Turfway Park on March 21. The 4-year-old colt drew off impressively in the stretch to win by four lengths while never giving his rivals a chance.
Trained by Michael Stidham, King Size entered the race off a maiden-breaking victory at Delaware Park in a 7 1/2-furlong turf event. Making his first start over the synthetic surface, the son of Twirling Candy appeared to take another step forward.
Despite being sent off at 10-1, the $925,000 Keeneland September yearling was aggressively ridden from the inside post by jockey Luan Machado and quickly established command. Traveling comfortably through fractions, King Size remained well within himself before opening up entering the stretch.
The bay colt stopped the timer in 1:12.47 and crossed the wire four lengths clear of runner-up Protective (Medaglia d’Oro).
Bred in Kentucky by Alice Bamford & Highfield Investment Group Inc., King Size hails from the family of Juddmonte standouts Cityscape and Bated Breath. He is also a half-brother to juvenile colt Ezz Fahad, a son of War of Will. His dam most recently returned to Twirling Candy.
