King Size Triumphs Again at Laurel Park

King Size added another victory to his growing résumé with a determined front-running performance at Laurel Park, turning back a late challenge to get the job done once again.

The 4-year-old son of Twirling Candy entered the race off a busy comeback campaign that began earlier this spring. After trying turf for the first time in his second career start, King Size broke his maiden at Delaware Park last August in a 7 1/2-furlong turf event, prevailing by a neck.

The colt had a successful seasonal debut for trainer Michael Stidham, romping by four lengths in an optional claimer at Turfway Park on March 21.

Sent off as the even-money favorite this time around, King Size was intent on the lead from the outset. The bay colt established command along the backstretch and continued to dictate the tempo around the far turn while traveling comfortably.

Entering the stretch, rival Naptown loomed alongside and appeared ready to mount a serious challenge, but King Size dug in gamely when called upon. Showing determination through the final furlong, he turned back his pursuer and held firm to the wire for another impressive victory.

Bred in Kentucky by Alice Bamford & Highfield Investment Group Inc, King Size is out of Hiking, a stakes-placed daughter of First Defence. Hiking produced a full-sister to King Size earlier this year and was bred back once again to Twirling Candy for the current breeding season.
