Good Bytes Makes History as the Bernhard’s First Homebred Winner

There are certain wins that mean a little more.

GOOD BYTES (3-year-old filly, Constitution -Querelle) became the first homebred winner for the Bernhards’ Pin Oak Stud on July 21, marking a special milestone for the farm and its racing program.

Bred, raised, and owned by Pin Oak Stud, Good Bytes earned her first victory in a $43,550 maiden special weight on the Delaware Park turf, closing strongly to defeat a field of fellow 3-year-old and older fillies.

The 4-5 favorite was outsprinted from the gate and settled toward the back of the field before gradually improving her position down the backstretch. Under jockey Martin Chuan, Good Bytes swung four wide at the top of the stretch, began to reel in the leaders and drove determinedly to the wire, getting her head in front late to prevail by a neck.

The victory came in just her second career start. Good Bytes had made her debut June 11 at Delaware Park, closing well to finish fourth going 1 1/16 miles on the turf.

Good Bytes represents the kind of full-circle story that makes breeding and racing so rewarding at Pin Oak. Her dam, Querelle, was purchased by Pin Oak Stud carrying Good Bytes in utero for $700,000 at the 2022 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale. A daughter of Violence, Querelle was a Graded stakes-placed racehorse who earned $187,661 during her racing career.

Querelle is also the dam of a 2-year-old colt by Tapit, named Mr Stone, a 2026 colt by Nyquist, and she was bred back to Twirling Candy. The family will continue to be an important part of Pin Oak’s breeding program as the farm builds toward the future.

For Pin Oak Stud, Good Bytes’ victory represents more than a first career win. It is the first homebred winner produced under the ownership of Jim and Dana Bernhard–a milestone that connects the farm’s breeding program, its racing operation, and the vision the Bernhards brought to Pin Oak.

And hopefully, it’s just the beginning.
