Chaos Agent returned to the winner’s circle in impressive fashion on August 2 at Woodbine.
The 3-year-old colt, by Independence Hall out of Into Oblivion (Into Mischief), earned his second career victory with a 3/4-length win in an allowance race going seven furlongs over Woodbine’s all-weather track.
Chaos Agent had given plenty of indication of his talent early in his career. He broke his maiden at first asking at Gulfstream Park on February 5, earning an 83 Beyer Speed Figure in the process.
That performance was enough to convince his connections to take a shot in the Jeff Ruby Steaks (G3) at Turfway Park. The race did not go as planned. He was given time to recuperate before beginning his return to training at Woodbine in early June.
Trainer Josie Carroll and her team carefully built him back up, and their patience paid off.
Sent off as the 8-5 favorite for his return, Chaos Agent hopped at the start but was patiently handled by his rider, settling into midpack down the backstretch. After a half-mile in :46.29, he began to advance toward the leaders.
Given his cue approaching the three-sixteenths pole, Chaos Agent scraped paint along the rail before finding an opening with a furlong to run. He surged through and kept fighting to the wire, holding off William T. by three-quarters of a length in a final time of 1:22.97.
Bred in Kentucky by James Paliafito and Joe Adams, Chaos Agent was purchased by Pin Oak Stud as a yearling at the 2024 Keeneland September Sale.
Into Oblivion has a 2YO filly by Greatest Honour, a yearling filly by Jimmy Creed, and a 2026 filly by Two Phil’s. She was bred to Jackie’s Warrior for 2027.
For Pin Oak, Chaos Agent’s victory was about more than adding another win to the record. It was a rewarding reminder of what can happen when a talented horse is given the time, care, and opportunity to come back from adversity.
